National artist confirmed to perform at annual Food & Wine Festival
Australian singer-songwriter Richard Clapton will headline a concert at Jupiters as part of the third annual Townsville Food & Wine Festival in June.
This year’s event will grow from a one-day food and wine extravaganza to a three-day festival with the outdoor concert featuring Clapton to be hosted on Saturday June 22.
Jupiters General Manager of Marketing Shalon Lawler said this year’s festival program would be jam-packed with everything from an intimate Penfolds wine dinner on Thursday June 20 to the live concert on Saturday, topped off with cooking demonstrations, master classes and a grape-stomping competition at the official festival on the Sunday.
“Guests will also see the return of the celebrity cook-off which was a big hit last year and saw Cowboys co-captain Johnathan Thurston take the title,” Mrs Lawler said.
“Townsville Mayor Cr Jenny Hill has confirmed her participation again this year and she will no doubt be looking to win that trophy back from JT.”
Going head-to-head with the Mayor will be two other Townsville identities that are yet to be announced.
“The three contestants will be given a very simple dish to create in a short period of time and three members of the audience will be selected to judge the end results based on taste and presentation,” Mrs Lawler said.
Some of the North’s best restaurateurs and suppliers will take part in the Food & Wine Festival event on the Sunday.
“Over 700 people attended the event in 2012 and with more entertainment, more seating and shade, more restaurants and more master classes for customers to enjoy, this year’s Townsville Food & Wine Festival is going to be even bigger and better.”
The third annual Townsville Food & Wine Festival will run from Thursday June 20 to Sunday June 23 and is an entirely 18+ event.
Tickets to all segments of the festival are on sale now through ww.townsvilletickets.com.au.
The Penfolds degustation dinner on June 20 will be held in Essence and includes a five-course menu perfectly matched with delicious wines and the expert knowledge of Penfolds wine maker, Steph Dutton who will be hosting the evening. Tickets are limited and cost $160 per person.
The Richard Clapton concert on June 22 will be held on the poolside lawns. Gates open at 3.30pm and tickets cost $50. Clapton will be supported by Cairns original artists the Dave Cooke Duo, Paul Brennan and local due The Wee Johnny’s.
